Welcome to Ahwatukeelife Biking

Ahwatukee is a great place to own and ride a bike. With our excellent weather for so much of the year it's hard to understand why everyone isn't riding. Even in summer it's nice to go for a quick ride in the early morning or late evening. On any given day here you can see people riding through town. Some ride for pleasure, some for training, some just to get out and do something with the family. We also have some of the best mountain biking around! One warning - because we have had such an increase in traffic in our little town the past few years, you need to always be aware of your surroundings and practice good bike etiquette.
One of the biggest complaints from drivers is that the bike riders (in the bike lane or not) are not riding single file!!!!
Remember that the roads are here to travel from one place to another using different types of transportation, however, there is only so much room and to be safe you must travel single file, cars only have so much room to move over too. That said, if you haven't done so lately (or at all) get out and go for a ride!

South Mountain Park
South Mountain Park is the largest mountain south of town. It's also the largest municipal park in the world and a great place to mountain bike. To get to the overlook, enter from Central Ave. South. There is a guard shack at the bottom of the hill and they should have information and be able to tell you where to go. From this entrance you can go to the top where the radio towers are. The eastern end of the park has several different trails and many of them can be quite challenging. Whenever your in the park remember there is a lot of foot traffic with hikers and runners especially on the weekend - so be aware!
